- Dinosaur - Genus of herbivorous dinosaurs - Herbivorous dinosaurs - A genus of large Jurassic dinosaurs remarkable for a
powerful dermal armature of plates and spines.
- An order of herbivorous dinosaurs with birdlike
characteristics in the skeleton, esp. in the pelvis and hind legs,
which in some genera had only three functional toes, and supported the
body in walking as in Iguanodon. See Illust. in Appendix.
- An extinct order of herbivorous dinosaurs having the
feet of a saurian type, instead of birdlike, as they are in many
dinosaurs. It includes the largest known land animals, belonging to
Brontosaurus, Camarasaurus, and allied genera. See Illustration in
Appendix.
- Bipedal dinosaur - A genus of gigantic herbivorous dinosaurs having a
birdlike pelvis and large hind legs with three-toed feet capable of
supporting the entire body. Its teeth resemble those of the iguana,
whence its name. Several species are known, mostly from the Wealden of
England and Europe. See Illustration in Appendix.
