yellow color, produced when meat, bread, gum, sugar, starch, and the
like, are roasted till they turn brown.
- A colorless oily liquid, C4H3O.CHO, of a pleasant odor,
obtained by the distillation of bran, sugar, etc., and regarded as an
aldehyde derivative of furfuran; -- called also furfural.
- A colorless liquid of an agreeable odor, C6H10O,
obtained by distilling a mixture of sugar and lime; -- so called
because formerly regarded as a polymeric modification of acetone.
