- A tribe of North American Indians (Southern
Appalachian) allied to the Choctaws. They formerly occupied the
northern part of Alabama and Mississippi, but now live in the Indian
Territory.
- A tribe of North American Indians (Southern
Appalachian), in early times noted for their pursuit of agriculture,
and for living at peace with the white settlers. They are now one of
the civilized tribes of the Indian Territory.
- White flowering plant - A genus of American and East Indian trees, of which the
best know species are the Catalpa bignonioides, a large, ornamental
North American tree, with spotted white flowers and long cylindrical
pods, and the C. speciosa, of the Mississipi valley; -- called also
Indian bean.
