- A large genus of tropical American trees and shrubs, nearly
related to the true myrtles (Myrtus), from which they differ in having
very few seeds in each berry.
- Large snake - Large, nonvenomous snake - Any species of very large snakes of the genus Python, and
allied genera, of the family Pythonidae. They are nearly allied to the
boas. Called also rock snake. - A diviner by spirits.
- Any coral of the genus Millepora, having the surface
nearly smooth, and perforated with very minute unequal pores, or cells.
The animals are hydroids, not Anthozoa. See Hydrocorallia.
- Hard quartz - Hard stone - Stone age axe material - A massive, somewhat impure variety of quartz, in color
usually of a gray to brown or nearly black, breaking with a conchoidal
fracture and sharp edge. It is very hard, and strikes fire with steel. - A piece of flint for striking fire; -- formerly much used,
esp. in the hammers of gun locks. - Anything extremely hard, unimpressible, and unyielding, like
flint.
