- A compound distilled spirit made in Ireland and
Scotland; whisky. - A liquor compounded of brandy, or other strong spirit,
raisins, cinnamon and other spices.

distillation of whisky; -- the former being called the strong faints,
and the latter, which is much more abundant, the weak faints. This
crude spirit is much impregnated with fusel oil.
- Brother Andrew casually makes cognac - Calvados or grappa - Distilled spirit - Strong drink - A strong alcoholic liquor distilled from wine. The name is
also given to spirit distilled from other liquors, and in the United
States to that distilled from cider and peaches. In northern Europe, it
is also applied to a spirit obtained from grain.
