- A suborder of serpents including those that have
permanently erect grooved poison fangs, with ordinary teeth behind them
in the jaws. It includes the cobras, the asps, and the sea snakes.
Called also Proteroglyphia.
- Having gular teeth formed by a peculiar modification
of the inferior spines of some of the vertebrae, as certain South
African snakes (Dasypeltis) which swallow birds' eggs and use these
gular teeth to crush them.
