threshing and winnowing; chaff. - The refuse part of stamped ore, thrown behind the tail of
the buddle or washing apparatus. It is dressed over again to secure
whatever metal may exist in it. Called also tails.

wind; to fan; as, to winnow grain. - To sift, as for the purpose of separating falsehood from
truth; to separate, as had from good. - To beat with wings, or as with wings.
