- Scaly anteater - Any one of several species of Manis, Pholidotus, and
related genera, found in Africa and Asia. They are covered with
imbricated scales, and feed upon ants. Called also scaly ant-eater.
- A genus of edentates, covered with large, hard, triangular
scales, with sharp edges that overlap each other like tiles on a roof.
They inhabit the warmest parts of Asia and Africa, and feed on ants.
