- Yellow pigment - A concrete juice, or gum resin, produced by several
species of trees in Siam, Ceylon, and Malabar. It is brought in masses,
or cylindrical rolls, from Cambodia, or Cambogia, -- whence its name.
The best kind is of a dense, compact texture, and of a beatiful reddish
yellow. Taking internally, it is a strong and harsh cathartic and
emetic.
- Bright red - Bright red colour - Purplish red - Red pigment - A rich red or crimson color with a shade of purple. - A beautiful pigment, or a lake, of this color, prepared
from cochineal, and used in miniature painting. - The essential coloring principle of cochineal, extracted
as a purple-red amorphous mass. It is a glucoside and possesses acid
properties; -- hence called also carminic acid.
- Brilliant red pigment - Vivid red - Vivid red colour - A bright red pigment consisting of mercuric sulphide,
obtained either from the mineral cinnabar or artificially. It has a
fine red color, and is much used in coloring sealing wax, in printing,
etc. - Hence, a red color like the pigment; a lively and
brilliant red; as, cheeks of vermilion. - To color with vermilion, or as if with vermilion; to
dye red; to cover with a delicate red.
