multilateral figure; running across from corner to corner; crossing at
an angle with one of the sides. - A right line drawn from one angle to another not
adjacent, of a figure of four or more sides, and dividing it into two
parts. - A member, in a framed structure, running obliquely across
a panel. - A diagonal cloth; a kind of cloth having diagonal
stripes, ridges, or welts made in the weaving.
- A right-lined quadrilateral figure, whose opposite
sides are parallel, and consequently equal; -- sometimes restricted in
popular usage to a rectangle, or quadrilateral figure which is longer
than it is broad, and with right angles.
- An equilateral parallelogram, or quadrilateral figure whose
sides are equal and the opposite sides parallel. The angles may be
unequal, two being obtuse and two acute, as in the cut, or the angles
may be equal, in which case it is usually called a square. - A rhombohedron.
