- Spontaneous generation, so called. - That method of reproduction in which the successive
generations differ from each other, the parent organism producing
offspring different in habit and structure from itself, the original
form, however, reappearing after one or more generations; -- opposed to
homogenesis, or gamogenesis.
- Producing young in a living state, as most mammals, or
as those plants the offspring of which are produced alive, either by
bulbs instead of seeds, or by the seeds themselves germinating on the
plant, instead of falling, as they usually do; -- opposed to oviparous.
