large pink West Indian conch. The large king, queen, and cameo conchs
are of the genus Cassis. See Cameo. - In works of art, the shell used by Tritons as a trumpet. - One of the white natives of the Bahama Islands or one of
their descendants in the Florida Keys; -- so called from the commonness
of the conch there, or because they use it for food.

anointing.
- The East Indian name for the large spiral shell of several
species of sea conch much used in making bangles, esp. Turbinella

shells of the genus Solarium and allied genera. The shell is conical,
and usually has a large, deep umbilicus exposing the upper whorls.

About four species are found living in the tropical Pacific, but many
other species are found fossil. The shell is spiral, symmetrical, and
chambered, or divided into several cavities by simple curved
partitions, which are traversed and connected together by a continuous
