America. - A West Indian fern, the Polypodium Phyllitidis of
Linnaeus. It is also found in Florida.
- Delicate potted fern - Type of fern - A fern of the genus Adiantum (A. pedatum), having very
slender graceful stalks. It is common in the United States, and is
sometimes used in medicine. The name is also applied to other species
of the same genus, as to the Venus-hair.
- Any fern of the genus Trichomanes. The fronds are very
delicate and often translucent, and the sporangia are borne on
threadlike receptacles rising from the middle of cup-shaped marginal
involucres. Several species are common in conservatories; two are
native in the United States.
