- Black stone - Gemstone - Glassy volcanic rock - Igneous rock - A kind of glass produced by volcanoes. It is usually of a
black color, and opaque, except in thin splinters.
- Lydian stone, or black jasper, a variety of siliceous or
flinty slate, of a grayish or bluish black color. It is employed to
test the purity of gold, the amount of alloy being indicated by the
color left on the stone when rubbed by the metal.

essentially of crude cream of tartar, and used in marking pure cream of
tartar, tartaric acid, potassium carbonate, black flux, etc., and, in
dyeing, as a mordant for woolen goods; -- called also argol, wine
stone, etc. - A correction which often incrusts the teeth, consisting of
salivary mucus, animal matter, and phosphate of lime.
- Native tin dioxide; tin stone; a mineral occurring in
tetragonal crystals of reddish brown color, and brilliant adamantine
luster; also massive, sometimes in compact forms with concentric
fibrous structure resembling wood (wood tin), also in rolled fragments
or pebbly (Stream tin). It is the chief source of metallic tin. See
