- A genus of Australian gallinaceous birds including but a
single species (Leipoa ocellata), about the size of a turkey. Its color
is variegated, brown, black, white, and gray. Called also native
pheasant.
- One of several species of sea birds of the genus Puffinus;
esp., P. major, the greater shearwarter, and P. Stricklandi, the black
hagdon or sooty shearwater; -- called also hagdown, haglin, and hag.

- Any one of numerous species of small clamatorial birds
belonging to Pipra and allied genera, of the family Pipridae. The male
is usually glossy black, varied with scarlet, yellow, or sky blue. They
chiefly inhabit South America.
